Easy Tiger: Don’t go giving it away

An example that ‘just asking’ gets results. Earlier in the term, I contacted the local branch of the store ‘Tiger’ asking for a donation of free products. I was inspired by hearing that often just asking for free stuff can get you exactly what you want!
Flynn and Lake (2008) suggested that people tend to underestimate people’s willingness to help and so this means that they don’t ask. But I dared to ask…

Amazingly, Tiger agreed to donated 4 bags full of products (as seen in the photo) at no cost to me or the society I was asking on behalf of. This included free notebooks, stationery, sweets and chocolate and much more. The society (Mind Aware) used these products during Mental Health Awareness Week. We asked students to text us with a question about mental health and then we delivered them a free gift along with the answer. It was a great way to get people talking about mental health on campus.
So, if you want free stuff – ask!
